Chapter 2. Variables and Variable Scope > Outputting Variable Values

Outputting Variable Values

You can manipulate variable values with ColdFusion operators as much as you would like, but ultimately you'll want to display one or more of the variable values in the Web page that you're using ColdFusion to build. To accomplish this task, you use <cfoutput>, which has a companion closing tag, </cfoutput>. All tag pairs must be balanced for your script to be processed.

TIP

If you're using ColdFusion Studio or HomeSite to do your ColdFusion development, you can activate the Tag Completion feature, which will automatically put in closing tags for you. Thus, if you type <cfoutput>, the program will drop in the </cfoutput> and your tags will remain balanced.
