Chapter 9. Troubleshooting Your ColdFusi... > Using CFML to Aid in Debugging

Using CFML to Aid in Debugging

Beyond the debugging support you can enable in the ColdFusion Administrator, some CFML tags and functions can also help you with troubleshooting. You read about the GetMetricData() function earlier in the chapter. The next three sections introduce you to three other useful instructions: <cfabort>, <cfdump>, and GetTickCount().

Using <cfabort>

The <cfabort> tag halts the processing of a ColdFusion script. This capability can be helpful in pinning down a logic error because you can stop the script at various points in the processing and examine variable values in an attempt to determine where the logic has gone wrong. <cfabort> is a standalone tag that takes the showerror attribute, which you set equal to a message you want displayed when ColdFusion stops processing.
