Chapter 8. Sending E-mail with ColdFusion > Using ColdFusion to Retrieve Mail

Using ColdFusion to Retrieve Mail

Now that you've used ColdFusion to send e-mail, it's time to look at how you can use it to retrieve e-mail. Your ability to retrieve e-mail with ColdFusion relies on the <cfpop> tag, which logs into a specified POP3 mail server and pulls down messages from the server. The <cfpop> tag's behavior is governed by its action attribute, which you can set to one of three values:

  • GetHeaderOnly— Retrieves only the message headers, not the body of the message.

  • GetAll— Retrieves the entire message, including headers, body, and attachments, if any.

  • Delete— Deletes the message from the POP3 server.
