What's Next

This chapter showed you how to add a search engine to your site by using the Verity search engine that comes bundled with ColdFusion. You saw how to create and maintain Verity collections, how to set up an interface that allows people to conduct searches, and how to present search results to users. Additionally, you saw how to index data from a database and make that data searchable through Verity as well. This capability is advantageous when you're searching through databases that have long text fields because performing a search with the SQL LIKE operator is much more processor intensive than performing a free-text search with Verity.

Now that you've surveyed many of CFML's beneficial features, it's time to put some of them to work. The next three chapters present case studies showing how you can use ColdFusion to develop useful applications. The next chapter focuses on setting up a corporate directory, similar to what you might find on a company's intranet site.
