Chapter 14. Case Study: Corporate Intranet Directory

Chapter 14. Case Study: Corporate Intranet Directory

Now that you've worked through 13 chapters of basic ColdFusion concepts, it's time to see how to combine those concepts to produce useful Web applications. This chapter and the next two are dedicated to ColdFusion case studies in which you will see how to build a ColdFusion application from start to finish.

Corporate directories are very common applications found on company intranets. A corporate directory allows any employee to look up another employee's contact information. Additionally, someone needs to maintain the employee data behind the directory, so it's reasonable to expect that there should be some administrative features that enable the appointed employee to do necessary maintenance. The administrative functions should not be publicly available and, even more than that, they should be password-protected to keep unauthorized users from changing employee information. You will learn how to do all of these things over the course of this case study.
