Chapter 15. Case Study: Conference Regis... > Providing an Administrative Report

Providing an Administrative Report

Attendees are not the only users of the conference registration site who need administrative functions. As the sponsor of the conference, you need your own set of admin tools as well. One such tool might include a report of how many people are registered for each workshop and, if applicable, how many people are on the waiting list. The registrationstats.cfm script in Listing 15.13 shows you how to accomplish this.

The script begins by retrieving all undeleted records from the Registrations table and storing that data in a query object called qGetAllStats. Because a lot of counting needs to be done in this report, it makes sense to get all the data you need out of the database in one shot rather than going back and forth to the database for each workshop. When all the data is in memory, ColdFusion can use its “query of a query” feature to do further queries against that data as if it were set up as a data source.
