Ben Forta

First and foremost, I'd like to thank the many hundreds of you who took the time to provide feedback and comments on the first two editions of this book. The numerous emails, phone calls, ICQ messages, online reviews, and impromptu meetings on tradeshow floors all helped shape this new edition. Once again, I welcome any and all comments on this book, and hope this new edition lives up to your expectations.

Thanks to everyone at Macmillan Computer Publishing for making this book a reality. In particular, special thanks to my Publisher, Joe Wikert, for recognizing the need for a book on ColdFusion, and for pushing me to work on this new edition, and to my Developer, Bryan Gambrel, for all his hard work and feedback (as well as for his help on both previous editions of this book).

Once again, a very special thank you to my Acquisitions Editor, Angela Kozlowski, for all her time, patience, advice, for not letting things fall through the cracks, and for keeping us authors on some semblance of a schedule (no easy task at all). I don't think I could have even considered updating this book had Angela not been involved.

Thanks once again to my coauthors, Ashley King, Mike Dinowitz, and Nate Weiss for their outstanding contributions. This book is as much theirs as it is mine.

Thanks to everyone at Allaire for all their hard work creating ColdFusion 4. The Internet application development community is indebted to you all. In particular, thanks to Jeremy Allaire, Jack Lull, Steve Penella, and Sim Simeonov for the support they gave the authors and editors as this book evolved.

This book's accompanying CD-ROM contains a collection of some of the best ColdFusion add-on tags and utilities that I have found. In addition to serving as examples of what ColdFusion can do, these tags will be of great value to all ColdFusion developers. A special thank you to all the developers who contributed tags. Unfortunately, there are too many of them to thank individually, but full credit is given in the documentation on the CD. If you find any of these tags or utilities useful, I urge you to email the developers directly to thank them.

A special thank you to my parents-in-law, Gerald and Eileen Borsand, for so many years of support and encouragement, and especially for helping Marcy and the kids cope with my often nightmareish travel schedule.

And most importantly, even though she insists there is no need for me to thank her publicly again, I must thank my wonderful wife Marcy. Anything I am, anything I have become, and anything I will be, is thanks to her. Marcy, for all your encouragement, sacrifices, support, love, and so much more, thank you.

Nate Weiss

A thousand thanks to Tanya Waldon for her thankless support while I was working on the original drafts of the chapters that appear here. Although my memory is generally poor, I remember your patience very clearly, Tanya. Thanks.
