Chapter 19. Using ColdFusion Components > Testing Your Application

Testing Your Application

Because Dreamweaver MX does not support Live Data View for ColdFusion components, your best bet for testing is to use your web browser. To test the application, follow these steps:

Open your web browser, and go to http://localhost:8500/bookexample/chap19/directoryClient.cfm. The page displays as shown in Figure 19.16.

Figure 19.16. The finished directoryClient.cfm page displays in a web browser. Notice the dynamic table that is powered by a CFDIRECTORY tag in the directoryExplorer component.

As you can see, the dynamic table renders as expected. It shows all the directories in the bookexample directory, the file types, and when they were last modified.

Scroll down the page to find the Component Utilities table. Try to rename one of the files the same name as another existing directory, such as trying to rename chap10 to chap11. When you click the Submit button, an error page should display, such as the one shown in Figure 19.17.

Figure 19.17. An error page displays when you try to do something that is not allowed, such as trying to rename a directory to an already existing directory name.

Using the directory creation utility, enter CFCsRule for the name, and click the Submit button. The directoryClient.cfm page should display again with the CFCsRule directory present in the table, as shown in Figure 19.18.

Figure 19.18. After creating a new directory, the directoryClient.cfm page displays again with the new directory listed.
