Creating Web Services with ColdFusion Components

To create web services in ColdFusion, you build ColdFusion components. To make component functions available for web service invocation, simply set the access attribute of the CFFUNCTION tag to remote. Also, using the CFFUNCTION tag’s returnType attribute, you must specify the data type returned by the component function, such as query, number, string, array, and so on.

ColdFusion components automatically generate the necessary WSDL for remote invocation. In fact, you can see the WSDL file for any component, as long as the CFFUNCTION tag’s access attribute is set to remote and a value for the returnType attribute is specified. To do this, direct your browser to the components location in your web root, and include WSDL at the end of URL. For example:
