Introduction to ColdFusion Persistent Variable Scopes

Consider the stateless nature of a web application. A browser makes a request to the server. The server processes the request, generates a page based on the information in the request, and returns the page to the browser. At this point, the server usually forgets about the application, freeing up resources so that it can handle other requests.

There are times, however, when you want to keep track of variables from request to request and from page to page. ColdFusion provides two variable scopes, Session and Client, that can be used to maintain variable values between requests. Although they can be used for similar purposes, there are some differences between the two scopes. Here is a brief summary of the features of Client and Session scopes:
