The Modern Era of Web Development

A lot can change in a couple of years. In 2001, Macromedia and Allaire merged into one company, keeping the Macromedia banner. ColdFusion 5.0 was released as was UltraDev 4, which skipped version numbers between 1 and 4. Today, ColdFusion MX and Dreamweaver MX offer a rapid application development (RAD) environment to build, test, and deploy ColdFusion applications faster and more easily than ever.

ColdFusion MX marks a significant milestone in ColdFusion’s history. Like much of the software industry, the web development community has moved toward standards-based solutions for application servers and web site design. To address this trend and keep ColdFusion on an equal footing with competing technologies, ColdFusion MX has been completely re-engineered in Java, or more accurately, Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE).
