Connecting to External Applications with ColdFusion

Although ColdFusion easily performs simple processing tasks like loops, its real power lies in its ability to connect to and interact with external applications or system resources. CFML provides specialized tags according to the application or resource being accessed.

For example, to connect to a database, you use the CFQUERY tag. In the CFQUERY tag’s attributes, you specify the data source and the variable to contain the recordset returned. In addition, you use the Structured Query Language (SQL) to create the recordset.
