Creating Action Pages

Action pages receive external data, process the data and code on the page, and optionally return a value to the calling page. A ColdFusion page that serves as an action page to a form page does not differ from any other ColdFusion page; the ColdFusion server processes the page with its variables and CFML logic.

As you learned in the previous section, form pages can send data using only the HTTP methods GET and POST. Therefore, any information sent to a ColdFusion action page will be available in either the form variable scope or the URL variable scope. The form variable scope receives any data sent from a form using the POST method. The URL variable scope, as the name implies, accepts variables sent using URL strings (through the GET method).
