Chapter 10. Charting Dynamic Data > Testing the Application

Testing the Application

To test this application, use a web browser—Dreamweaver’s Live Data View does not support Flash movies, thereby hamstringing your debugging efforts.

Open your web browser, and go to http://localhost:8500/bookexample/chap10/selectParkChart.cfm. The web browser displays the form page, as shown in Figure 10.16. The URL assumes that you are using the ColdFusion internal web server. If you are using IIS, the port number (8500) is not needed.

Figure 10.16. The selectParkChart.cfm page lets users configure the chart to their personal preferences.

In selectParkChart.cfm, make your selections and click the Submit button. The viewParkChart.cfm page displays.

In viewParkChart.cfm you see the graph, as shown in Figure 10.17. Notice that a chart legend is automatically generated. Using your mouse, hover your cursor over the chart. As you see, pop-up messages provide details on charted elements. Click on a charted element. The viewChartDetail.cfm page displays.

Figure 10.17. The viewParkChart.cfm page displays the chart. You can interact with the chart by hovering your cursor over and clicking on a charted element.

In the viewChartDetail.cfm page, as shown in Figure 10.18, you see the dynamic table that was filtered based on which charted element you clicked in viewParkChart.cfm.

Figure 10.18. The viewChartDetail.cfm page displays a dynamic table, which is filtered on URL variables passed from the chart in viewParkChart.cfm, that shows detail park listings.
