Chapter 12. Wireframing > Closing Thoughts

Closing Thoughts

We have finished one part of the wireframe in a short amount of time. This process is fast, but most applications you develop are going to be larger than Third Wheel Bikes. How long should wireframing take? It is difficult to quantify exactly, but we have found that for a two-month project, the wireframe can take a week to develop. You might get nervous spending so much valuable development time without doing coding, but remember that the amount of time you spend wireframing is proportional to the amount of time you save from making changes in the following phases, including development.

Generating the Prototype

Rebar allows you to generate an HTML prototype so that it can run without ColdFusion. In fact, you do not have to wait until the wireframe is complete to create a prototype. You can do periodic “builds” to show others who are involved in the project how the wireframing is progressing. Using Rebar to generate HTML prototypes is also an excellent way to get a jump-start on the next phase: prototyping. Use the Rebar Admin to generate the prototype, as shown in Figure 12.12.
