Chapter 9. Nested Layouts > fbx_Layouts.cfm and Layout Files

fbx_Layouts.cfm and Layout Files

Each Fusebox 3 circuit has an fbx_Layouts.cfm file. This file specifies the location of files that will produce the final output for the circuit. It’s easy at first glance to confuse the job that layout files perform with the job that display fuses perform. Both are tasked with producing output for the circuit.

The difference between the two categories of file is twofold. First, display fuses generate specific output to be presented, but layout files actually present the output in context. This is because of the way the Fusebox core wraps the fuses’ output into the fusebox.layout variable. Unless a layout file can reference this variable, the user will never see the output that the fuse generated. Second, the HTML that a display fuse generates is specific to a particular task, but the HTML that a layout file generates is generalized to the purpose of outputting the content that its fuses create.
