Part IV: Appendixes > Nested Layouts

Nested Layouts

Similar to the way that nested circuits allow fbx_settings.cfm files to be executed in order, from the root circuit to the target circuit, nested layouts allow the output of the fuseaction to be nested in layouts that are applied by the parent circuits. fbx_layouts.cfm determines which layout file to use (one that uses the lay_ prefix).

This allows one site-wide layout to be applied to all fuseactions (from the root fbx_layouts.cfm and layout file). Circuits can add their own layouts nested inside the root circuit. Additionally, the layout file can act as an “assembler,” collecting multiple fuseactions from different circuits into one layout file, enabling portal-style page creation. The power and application of nested layouts are discussed in Chapter 9, “Nested Layouts.”
