Signoff

Signoff on a project is simply the client’s acknowledgment that the application development is finished. Depending on your arrangement with the client, this might occur immediately following acceptance testing, or it might be delayed until the application has been placed on a production server.

It is best to agree that signoff on the completed application development will occur as a result of completed acceptance testing. Because most clients will have their own staff who is responsible for maintaining in-house servers or will have technical contacts for outsourced sites, monitoring the production activity is not normally the developer’s responsibility. After all, you were hired to build an application, not monitor its production run. Of course, you might have contracted for follow-on production monitoring or maintenance of the application. If so, that’s another phase of the project; the development phase needs to be completed and signed off before you continue into production monitoring.
