About the Technical Reviewers

These reviewers contributed their considerable hands-on expertise to the entire development process for Fusebox: Developing ColdFusion Applications. As the book was being written, these dedicated professionals reviewed all the material for technical content, organization, and flow. Their feedback was critical to ensuring that Fusebox: Developing ColdFusion Applications fits our reader’s need for the highest-quality technical information.

Michael Smith is president and founder of TeraTech Inc., a Rockville, Maryland-based ColdFusion, Database, and Visual Basic consulting company. Michael has written articles on ColdFusion programming for CFDJ magazine, Macromedia Developer Center, CF Advisor, Fusion Authority, and CPCUG monitor. He has spoken at many ColdFusion conferences, including CFUN-2K, CFNORTH, CFSOUTH, and Sys-Con’s ColdFusion Edge. Michael runs the Maryland ColdFusion User Group (MDCFUG) at http://www.cfug-md.org/ and has taught programming and methodologies at USDA, VOA, AOC, and FDA.

He wrote his first program in 1976 on a mini-computer in BASIC. Of that he says, “I had to handwrite the program—in very neat block caps—for data entry by the punch card folks. The results came back on line printer paper the next week. Boy, did it make me careful not to make typos in my code or have bugs in my program! We used to bench run the programs out loud before submitting to be sure they worked before the computer got hold of them…” Fortunately, programming languages have improved greatly in the past twenty-five years!

Michael has been programming for more than 20 years and has been coding in ColdFusion since version 1.5 in 1997. He has coded in more languages than he sometimes wants to remember, including BASIC, Clipper, FoxPro, Visual Basic, C, Fortran, ASM, Oracle, and SQL.

Michael is on the board of ByteBack (http://www.byteback.org/), a non-profit organization that provides computer training for unemployed and under-employed inner-city residents.
