Understanding How ColdFusion Works with Files

Most of us think of our Web browsers primarily as viewing tools—applications designed to enable us to look at stuff on the Web and maybe download a file or two now and then. But as competition between the "big two" browser companies (Microsoft and Netscape) has increased, these once-lowly viewing applications have begun to support more interactive features.

One of the most useful features—and the least heralded—is the ability to upload files via a browser window. As a Web designer, it's likely you use some form of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software to send your expertly crafted files to a remote server, but I'll bet you didn't know that you could perform the same action using nothing but Netscape's Navigator or Microsoft's Internet Explorer. If you did know that, keep that smug look and read on.
