Part 3: Week 3 At a Glance > Using ColdFusion Client and Session Management

Day 16. Using ColdFusion Client and Session Management

In the examples leading up to today's lesson, you've created several types of templates that perform tasks like retrieving, displaying, or storing data. So far, you've looked at each type of template as a unique entity unto itself, but realize that in a real-life scenario, you or your clients'sites are likely to require several types of templates that perform a variety of tasks.

Together, these various templates are called a ColdFusion application. In to-day's lesson, you'll learn how to deal with your site as a complete application—rather than as individual templates. This enables you to implement a variety of features, including sharing data from one template to another, maintaining a user's preferences throughout a site, or tracking the comings and goings of visitors. In today's lesson, you'll learn about

  • ColdFusion's Web application framework

  • The Application.cfm file

  • Application, client, and session variables

  • Client-state management

  • Using cookies with ColdFusion
