Day 13. Using ColdFusion to Handle Email > Getting Incoming Mail with <CFPOP>

Getting Incoming Mail with <CFPOP>

The powerful companion tag to <CFMAIL> is <CFPOP>, which works on the receiving end to enable users to view and manage incoming email from a ColdFusion template page. <CFPOP> works its magic by acting like a mail client using the POP3 mail protocol, and can be customized to take advantage of many features available to POP3 users.

POP3 stands for Post Office Protocol, a common Internet standard used to retrieve email. POP3-compatible mail servers store users'mail until it is requested by a POP3-compatible mail client such as Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape Mail. When you download new messages from your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you're probably using POP3.
