Day 21. Using ColdFusion's Debugging Too... > Understanding Error Messages Generat...

Understanding Error Messages Generated by ColdFusion

To avoid confusion, it's important to understand that ColdFusion errors come in two varieties. The first variety includes errors that come directly from ColdFusion Server and identify some problem with a template or process. The majority of these errors are the result of syntax problems, such as a misplaced </CFIF> or </CFOUTPUT> tag in your templates.

The second variety includes errors that are actually generated by components other than ColdFusion, but are passed on as ColdFusion errors to aid in development. The most common errors of this type are ODBC driver errors. These are displayed in ColdFusion's standard error format, but are labeled as ODBC errors so that you know it's your ODBC driver rather than ColdFusion that is complaining about your code.
