Day 8. Understanding ColdFusion Studio > Accessing Remote Servers

Accessing Remote Servers

One of Studio's best features lies in the capability to work on remote ColdFusion applications. For example, if you were to sign on a client that needs modifications to a CF app already existing on the client's server, the traditional method requires downloading both the client's database and all the necessary ColdFusion files. You have to define the client's database as a datasource on your local machine, make the necessary modifications to the templates, and then reload everything back to the client's server.

That process is not necessarily required with Studio. The remote access feature enables you to connect to datasources and files anywhere on local or remote networks and, in most cases, to make changes directly to the active files as you edit them in Studio.
