Day 17. Finding Text with Verity > Integrating Databases into Verity Collection...

Integrating Databases into Verity Collections

You've learned how to create a Verity search that examines document files on your server, but what about all that useful data that's tucked away in your ColdFusion datasources? No worry, because, with a little extra work, Verity can be configured to index database contents as well.

As a search engine, Verity could easily examine the data stored in your datasources—that's not the problem. The trouble is that it wouldn't know what text to return as results. Recall from Table 17.2 that Verity searches return five variables for matched documents: KEY, TITLE, SCORE, URL, and CURRENTROW. When dealing with database contents, two of these variables present a problem because how is Verity to know which of your field contents should be returned as the Key, and which should be returned as the Title?
