The Datasource and ODBC

After we've created a database and populated it with vital information, we're only a few steps away from serving up that data on the Web. The next task is to "link" your database with ColdFusion. This link is called a datasource, or DSN.

Note

Manuals for older releases of ColdFusion were peppered with references to "DSNs," but you'll find newer versions prefer the term "datasource." Why the change? Who knows, but it might have something to do with the fact that "DSN" is a lot like the acronym "DNS," which refers to an Internet domain name server, a whole different animal we don't need to mess with here.
