Chapter II-2. Initial Thoughts > Design Prototypes

Design Prototypes

For the rest of the week, the Vshift design team worked on an initial look and feel for the application. They would deliver these prototypes to the MonkeyTongue design team to get its input on how the need to be changed for the actual application. The team thought the best way to tackle the future mobile-device needs, and the small screen sizes that come with them, would be to design a user interface based on small movie clips for each application's functional area. The idea is to display three of these small areas on the same screen for the standard Web display of the application. This way, in future phases when the application is ported to mobile devices, these small screens can be displayed one at a time without having to redesign the entire application. The team came up with a couple design ideas that show what the application logo could look like (Figure II-2.3), and what one of the three small areas could look like (Figure II-2.4). They were not concerned with mocking up every bit of the application at this point, just something simple to get the MonkeyTongue team thinking about how the application could look. The team created the screen shot and sent the following memo to the MonkeyTongue designers.

Figure II-2.3. This is the preliminary design for the application logo.
