Part III: Appendixes > Platform-Specific Issues

A.6. Platform-Specific Issues

A.6.1. Unix

The various Unix platforms all have limits on the number of files that can be open in a single process at one time. For busy sites, you'll need to increase that number to 1024:

Solaris

In /etc/system, set rlim_fd_max and reboot.

SGI

Run systune -i and set rlimit_nofile_max and rlimit_nofile_cur, then reboot.

AIX

Run smit and check the kernel tuning parameters.

HP-UX

Run sam and check the kernel tuning parameters.
