Chapter 21. Advanced ActionScript > Movie-Related Classes and Global Objects

Movie-Related Classes and Global Objects

ActionScript defines a number of classes and global objects (singletons) designed specifically for creating Web animation. Sixteen such classes are categorized as Movie-related and listed under Built-in Classes, Movie in the Macromedia Flash MX Toolbox list (on the left side of the Actions panel). These 15 Movie objects are as follows: Accessibility, Button, Color, ContextMenu, Key, LocalConnection, Mouse, MovieClip, PrintJob, Selection, Sound, Stage, TextField, TextFormat and TextSnapShot. Three of these, ContextMenu, PrintJob and TextSnapShot, are new in Flash MX 2004.

These Flash-specific objects are not defined in the ECMA-262 standard or implemented in JavaScript. Nevertheless, they include some of the most widely used classes in ActionScript, such as MovieClip, TextField, and TextFormat.
