Summary

This chapter taught you the basics of creating an XHTML table, from entering the <table> element to adding the row (<tr>), heading (<th>), and data cell (<td>) elements. You also learned some of the attributes for cells and rows, including alignment, background colors, and attributes that enable you to span more than one row or more than one column with a single cell. Then, you saw some of the more involved attributes for a <table> element, including those that alter the spacing of cells and the borders between them. This has all been primer for Chapter 9, where you’ll learn some advanced uses for tables, including formatting entire pages using table elements.
