Adding Multimedia to Your Pages

In this section, let’s take a general look at the two approaches to adding multimedia to your pages—the hyperlink and embedding. Then, we’ll take a slightly closer look at some of the most popular technologies, including a discussion of streaming technologies.

Adding Hyperlinks

A hypermedia link really isn’t much different from any other kind of link, except in one detail—instead of linking to another HTML document, you link to a multimedia file. The browser has to recognize the kind of file you’ve linked to and then load a helper application. The helper application takes over from the browser and displays the multimedia file.
