Achieving Standardization Across Platforms

I got my text to look nice, until I viewed it on both Macs and Windows, and on IE and Netscape. The difference was huge. What’s up?

Mac font metrics have traditionally been based on 72dpi, while Windows chose 96dpi. For this reason, a standard size like 12 points looks too big on one platform, and too small on the other.
