Creating Tables

Tables consist of individual blocks (called cells) that form rows (horizontal groups of cells, like chairs in a concert hall) and columns (vertical stacks of cells, like classical pillars) in much the same configuration as a chessboard, a spreadsheet, or your average Brady family. You can set the number of cells per row and column, determine the size of borders and cell space, and choose background colors and alignment for individual cells. In addition, you can merge cells together, and add tables within other tables, performing complex feats of formatting.

GoLive makes table creation easy with the use of specialized controls such as the Table object, Table Inspector, Special Table menu, and Table Palette. Some commands even have keyboard shortcuts. Figure 15.1 shows a table’s properties as you define them in the Inspector, including the number of rows and columns, and the dimensions of the whole table.
