Chapter 28. Using Dynamic Content > About Data Sources

About Data Sources

There’s a difference between your database, where your data resides, and GoLive’s term Data Source. When GoLive refers to a Data Source, it’s actually talking about a little file that it’s going to create for your site containing information about a particular database. The Data Source includes everything such as where the database is on the network, what type of connection is needed to reach it, and what username and password to use. Data Source files are stored inside the datasources folder, which is inside the config folder that GoLive creates for every dynamic site.

GoLive does all the work to create the Data Source; you typically never need to know about it or worry about it. Later, when we build our dynamic site, we’ll go through the steps to tell GoLive what it needs to know to define its Data Sources.
