Code

First and foremost, GoLive 6.0 enhances the streamlined code integration already available in GoLive 5.0. Avid HTML coders can still rely on the source editor to make simple modifications or to build an entire page from scratch. In addition, the source can be viewed according to your individual preference: in the Layout Editor, Source Editor, and the Outline Editor.

  • Layout Editor (see Figure 1.1): Shows an approximation of what the page looks like in a browser. This feature is an approximation simply because different browsers interpret and render the same code slightly differently.

Figure 1.1. GoLive’s Layout View shows an approximation of how the page might appear in a browser.

  • Source Editor (see Figure 1.2): Provides direct access to all the code in the page. Any changes you make in the code will automatically transfer over to the Layout View.

Figure 1.2. GoLive’s Source Editor lets you delve into the code at your own free will.

  • Outline Editor (see Figure 1.3): Provides a hierarchical view of the code. You can navigate through the structure and even make changes to the code within this hierarchy. Especially useful for novice coders, the hierarchy provides a means to dig through the code for the pieces you want to change without running the risk of making accidental changes elsewhere in the code.

Figure 1.3. GoLive’s Outline Editor features a hierarchical representation of the page’s code.
