Chapter 22. Integrating with Photoshop, ... > Slicing a Photoshop Mockup

Slicing a Photoshop Mockup

In the following examples, a mockup has been created. First, we will use a mockup for the contact page of a fictitious site to demonstrate Photoshop’s capabilities and ImageReady’s ability to build a rollover. Then, we’ll focus on Illustrator’s slicing capabilities. Finally, slicing as it pertains to LiveMotion will be detailed.

Second, the mockup can be used to create smaller sliced images. Slicing refers to cutting the one image into smaller pieces. Each slice (or piece) can be custom optimized, so that one piece may be exported as a GIF, whereas its neighbor can be exported as a JPEG. Typically, the slices are then reassembled into a cohesive page via HTML code—either using floating boxes (CSS layers) or layout grids (HTML tables).
