Chapter 2. GoLive Essentials > The Page Window

The Page Window

Now let’s open up the home page and take a gander at your canvas for page creation. Double-click on the Index.html file within the Site Folder, or select it via File, Open from within GoLive as you would with any file. Up pops a blank page, ready for you to design as you choose.

The Layout mode displayed by default enables you to create a page graphically. If you prefer, you could select the Source tab near the top of the Window in order to type HTML code directly, or choose the Preview tab to see what your page will look like in a browser. You also have tabs that enable you to create or preview pages with frames, and an Outline Editor for better control over your source code. In addition, there’s a toggle switch at the bottom left of the window that enables you to view the page graphics and source code simultaneously—the perfect situation for you whole-brain thinkers. If you simply want to add code to the header of your document, such as meta tags to be used by search engines, there’s a toggle at the top left to open a window specifically geared toward editing information in the head section. (All these window options are discussed in more detail in the next few chapters.)
