Chapter 7. Customizing GoLive > Examining Your Workflow

Examining Your Workflow

Let’s face it: Screen real estate is in high demand. Why waste even one precious pixel on a tool you never use? Your workspace is like an artist’s studio or a carpenter’s shop, where all your tools can be laid out in a way that suits your particular style of working. This is your space; your palettes should reflect that. Before you can truly customize your space, you need to ask a few questions of yourself. Take a moment to take stock.

Establish Your Role

What do you do? GoLive is an enormous, complex program. It’s highly unlikely that any one person uses all the tools it provides. Creating a Web site can prove to be an equally complex challenge, which is why Web teams have grown in popularity. Usually each person contributes his or her unique piece to the whole rather than attempting to master the universe. If you’re a programmer, concentrate on that. If you design, that should be your focus. That doesn’t mean you can’t ever cross over or learn a new skill; it simply means that the tools you use should reflect the work you do. Streamlining your desktop to concentrate on the job at hand enables you to work much more efficiently. Remember: Work smarter, not harder.
