Chapter 25. XTRAS > TROUBLESHOOTING XTRAS

TROUBLESHOOTING XTRAS

  • Remember that Xtras require different files for different platforms. If you use the Buddy API Xtra, for instance, you have to bundle the Mac version with your Mac projectors and the Windows version with Windows projectors.

  • After you decide to use an Xtra with a movie, you must include it with the projector when you are finished. You can do this in several ways. See Chapter 36, “Creating Java Applets,” for detailed information.

  • If you are thinking about making your own Xtra, beware of the trap into which many developers fall: They often assume that a task cannot be done with Lingo alone, when it can. Director 8 Lingo is so powerful that you should always carefully consider the option of using Lingo before commissioning an Xtra.

  • If you ever get the message “A duplicate Xtra has been found…” when starting Director, this means that you have to go to your Xtras folder and find the duplicate. Unfortunately, Director does not point you in any direction. Because the same Xtra can have different filenames, it might be hard to find the culprit. Many times, you have to remove one Xtra at a time and restart Director until the mystery is solved.
