Source movies for this chapter can be found on the CD-ROM in the “Book Movies” folder under folder 24.

Movies in a window, usually referred to as MIAWs (often pronounced “meow,” as in the sound a cat makes), are an unusual part of Director. They enable you to open other windows, besides the Stage, that contain Director movies.

MIAWs have many uses. Because they play independently of each other and of the Stage, they are useful for functions that don't fit into the Stage's window. You can create your own custom dialog boxes or message windows with MIAWs. You can even create your own application using several different windows, just as Director and almost every other professional computer application does.
