DID YOU KNOW?

  • You don't necessarily need to embed a Shockwave applet inside an HTML page. You can point a browser directly to a Shockwave applet just as you can point it directly to a GIF or JPEG. The movie will fill the window, starting at the upper-left corner.

  • Although getNetText can be used to retrieve data from a server stored in .html or .txt format, you can also use full CGI-like pathnames to access scripts. You can use postNetText to access scripts that respond only to posts.

  • Use the Lingo function netError to determine whether something has gone wrong with a getNetText command, and what the problem is.

  • You can use getNetText, netDone, and netTextResult without a network ID stored in a variable just as the examples in this book show. In that case, the program assumes that you mean the most recent network operation. It will work fine as long as you have only one network operation going on at a time.
