DID YOU KNOW?

  • You can place multiple lines of text in a preference file. Store as much information as you want.

  • You can use a second parameter with getNetText to specify a different server character set: “JIS” or “EUC”. The default for this parameter is “ASCII” and the setting “AUTO” attempts to automatically determine the server character set.

  • The netMIME function can be used to determine the file's MIME type after the netDone command returns TRUE.

  • The function netLastModDate can be used to determine the server's time stamp for the file after the netDone returns TRUE.

  • You can use network Lingo over HTTPS (secure servers).

  • An on EvalScript handler can use return to send information back to JavaScript.

  • Global variables persist from movie to movie when you use the gotoNetMovie command.

  • Another network function is downloadNetThing. This function downloads an entire file from the Internet and places it on a user's hard drive. For security reasons, it is not available in Shockwave. However, it is a powerful feature of projectors.

  • A powerful feature of Shockwave is that you can switch the filename property of a linked member to point to a new file. Even more powerful, however, is that you can do the same thing with entire external cast libraries. Remember to use preloadNetThing first!
