SENDING TEXT

Since the introduction of Shockwave in 1995, movies have been able to send text over the Internet. However, until Director 7, there were no commands to do this in Director. Instead, a trick was used to send information to server CGI scripts using getNetText. This trick is still a great way to communicate with the server. Director 8 also includes the postNetText command, which enables the movie to post information to a server in the same manner as an HTML page form.

Using getNetText to Send Text

It seems confusing, but you can send text by getting text. The getNetText command is used to get text information from a server. However, in doing so, you can give information to the server. It is similar to the way that Lingo functions work. A function returns information, but it can also accept information as a parameter.
