DID YOU KNOW?

  • There are companies that specialize in taking your nearly finished product and testing it on different machines in a testing lab. They then report on bugs and performance issues.

  • A cheap way to test your projector or Shockwave movies on other machines is to find public computers that you can use. For instance, you can find older machines in libraries. You can also use computers in Internet cafés.

  • On Macs, you can use the Extensions Manager to set up an alternative set of system extensions to use for testing. Such a set might not include some of the performance-enhancing extensions that your development machine normally uses.

  • Use the system property the traceload to have member loading and unloading information to the Message window. Set it to 1 to just see the members, and to 2 to see the members plus all sorts of other information.

  • If you are a serious Shockwave developer, you might want to pay for a few $19.95-per-month dial-up Internet connections, even if you have a faster connection available. Then, every once in a while, try the applets on your site using these various services to see what your users are seeing.
