Chapter 24. MOVIES IN A WINDOW AND ALTER... > TROUBLESHOOTING MIAWS AND ALTERNATIV...

TROUBLESHOOTING MIAWS AND ALTERNATIVES

  • Always make sure you forget MIAWs when you want to get rid of them. Closing them only makes them invisible.

  • Be sure to test all your code in a MIAW. If a Lingo error occurs in the code in a MIAW while it is running as a MIAW, Director might return bad information about what is wrong and where the problem is.

  • Test your MIAWs on both platforms, and in various versions of operating systems (Windows 95 and 98, for instance), to make sure they look okay.

  • The MUI Dialog Xtra was not designed for developers to use. Instead, it was made for Macromedia to use for future Director and Xtra development. It's a very advanced technique and should not be attempted by beginners. This Xtra is also not fully supported by Macromedia.

  • Errors in MUI Xtra property lists can cause Director to crash. The Xtra was not created with abuse in mind. Save your movies often when you are working with the MUI Xtra.

  • MIAWs can position themselves differently for different screen sizes. Be sure to test your MIAWs with different monitor settings and adjust the rect property accordingly.
