Performance can be the difference between a good Director movie and a great one. Issues that you may not think about can sometimes spoil a multimedia experience for the users. For instance, issues such as a long download over the Internet, too long of a pause before a digital video starts, poor color quality in a picture, or a sound that isn't synchronized with the animation can spell disaster for your product.

Solving performance issues is usually about fine-tuning. Most of the time it is left for the last stage of development. However, at some point, performance issues must be examined and solved before a project can be considered done.
