Chapter 37. CREATING MULTIUSER APPLICATIONS > USING PEER-TO-PEER CONNECTIONS

USING PEER-TO-PEER CONNECTIONS

Not all multiuser programs need to use a server. You can also use the Multiuser Xtra to connect directly with another computer on the Internet. Even though this is a peer-to-peer connection without using an actual server, one computer is considered the “server” and the other the “client.” The main difference is that the “server” starts up and waits for connections. The “client” will then try to contact the “server.”

This has limited use since the client user must somehow know the IP address of the server user. If they are both Shockwave movies or Projectors running on someone's random computer on the Internet, then how is one to know the other exists?
