Chapter 16. CONTROLLING TEXT > TROUBLESHOOTING TEXT AND STRINGS

TROUBLESHOOTING TEXT AND STRINGS

  • ASCII codes for normal letters and numbers are exactly the same for all nonsymbol fonts on both Mac and Windows. As a matter of fact, almost all ASCII characters between 32 and 127 are the same for all fonts. However, characters above 127 can be very different in different fonts and be different even on the same fonts from different platforms. These are special symbols, such as currency symbols and accent marks. See “Fonts” in Chapter 35, “Cross-Platform Issues,” for information on font mapping.

  • If you are restricting the input of an editable field or a text member, remember to allow the BACKSPACE character. Otherwise, users might not be able to erase what they are typing when they make mistakes.
