DID YOU KNOW?

  • If you are having trouble making your first movie, try to open a simple sample movie first, such as one on the Director 8 CD-ROM or one on this book's CD-ROM. Play around with it first before trying to create your own movie.

  • Most preference windows can be reached by +clicking on the Macintosh, or right-clicking in Windows on the element or window that you want to affect. Many times the contextual menu brought up by this click will have some commonly used options available in the menu, in addition to a menu item that will bring up the complete preferences window.

  • You can export a single frame of a movie to an image by selecting only that one frame as the export range and an image format as opposed to a video format.

  • Grids always start in the upper-left corner. If you want to have a grid that starts a little farther in, such as a 20×20 grid that starts at 10×10, you can just use the 20×20 grid as is, and then move all the sprites over and down by 10 pixels when you are done. This way, your grid starts at 10 horizontally and vertically, and it continues to 30, 50, 70, and so on.
