Databases and ASP

You can connect to any database that supports Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) by using ASP. Apart from databases such as Oracle, Access, SQL Server, and Paradox, which are ODBC-compliant, ASP can access Excel spreadsheets and delimited text files that are also ODBC-compliant. ODBC is a solution to create a common interface to access databases that present data in different formats. Using ODBC, an application can query a database without using a low-level Application Programming Interface (API).

Note

A low-level API consists of function calls that interact directly with the hardware components of a computer, such as I/O ports. To understand how these low-level function calls work, you need to have a good understanding of the role binary and hexadecimal numbers play in interacting with hardware.
